Fellowship Club

The Fellowship Club, facilitated by Joseph Costantino, Ph.D., will meet Thursday, September 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the west meeting room of the Bitterroot Public Library, Hamilton. Spring/Summer Program 2010

“A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose” by Eckhart Tolle will be the topic. In this profoundly inspiring work, Eckhart Tolle advocates present moment awareness and the dismantling of the ego as the path towards awakened living. The book gets its title from a Bible verse referring to the rising of "a new heaven and a new earth." According to Tolle, "heaven" is the awakened state that will bring about "a new earth" in the outer world, the world of form.

Tolle views the 'ego' as our principal barrier to the awakened state. He explains how our association with the word "I" minimizes who we truly are by allowing us to identify ourselves with our mind, our gender, our accumulated possessions, our social roles, and so on. Tolle cites examples from varying traditions – Christian, Zen, and Hindu – to show that the only way to diminish the 'ego' is to focus on the Now (on Being rather than Doing, on presence rather than form) in order to destroy our time-bound state of consciousness.

Eckhart Tolle is a German-born writer, public speaker, and spiritual teacher, now living in Vancouver, Canada. He is the author of the bestseller “The Power of Now”, and an article in the New York Times referred to him as "the most popular spiritual author in the nation." Tolle is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition and his work has been influenced by a wide range of spiritual teachings.

The Fellowship Club meets every second Thursday of the month and is free and open to the public, especially anyone seeking to promote individual and collective well being. Call 363-1670 for more information.
