Wednesday, July 18, 2007 Sports at a GlanceAll stories by Jean Schurman Tourney time for Bucs, Red SoxSwim team wins own meetTourney time for Bucs, Red SoxThe Bitterroot Bucs swept their rival, Bitterroot Red Sox, Sunday afternoon in Florence, earning the Bucs the second seed from the south position at this weekends Divisional Tournament. That tournament will be held in Polson from Saturday through Tuesday. The Bucs came out strong and took an early lead but some mental mistakes and good hits by the Red Sox kept the game close. The Red Sox had seven runs on six hits in the fourth inning. Tied after six innings, a sac fly by the Bucs Shane Taylor allowed Jeremiah Hanna to score and take the one-run lead into the final inning. But, once again, the Red Sox came to life. A single by Hamblin and a double by Brown had put the tying and winning runs on base. Paul Donaldson stepped up and knocked a long double to score Hamblin. Another sac fly by Brady Anderson scored Brown and the Red Sox took the lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Luke Topp, the first batter up for the Bucs, was walked and the tying run was on base. Dustin Lind was next. The veteran hitter had a home run in the second inning but only had a single. The wining run was on base. Up stepped Matthew Perez. He knocked a long ball to the fence to score the two runners for the 14-13 win. Lind finished the game with two RBIs and a home run. Andrew Shook and Seaman each had two doubles for the Red Sox as well as two RBIs. Jeremy Stephens was credited with the win for the Bucs and Donaldson took the loss. It was more of the same in the second game of the double header. The Bucs came out strong but the Red Sox came back strong. Lind again had a 2-run home run. Perez hit a long ball to tie the game in the seventh and Hanna hit a sac fly to score the winning run. Bucs 13, Red Sox 12. They battled back, said Bucs manager Dustin Bahm. We dug our own hole but we showed a lot in coming back. Bahm went on to say his team is focusing on team play and working together. Dustin Lind had two home runs and Matthew Perez hit well. He had the winning hit in the first game. Max Burns laid down two squeeze bunts, that was big for us. Tournament play will begin Saturday in Polson. The Red Sox will play the Kalispell Lakers, the No. 1 seed from the north, at noon on Saturday. The Bucs as the No. 2 seed from the south, will play the Glacier Twins at 3 p.m. The Twins are the No. 3 seed from the north.
