Tour of Stevi river park area scheduled

A tour has been scheduled at Stevensville River Park and the fishing access site at the Stevensville river bridge for the public to view the areas being considered in a proposed land swap between local ranch owner Roy Capp and the Town of Stevensville. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is hosting the tour of the parkland on Saturday, December 10 at 3 p.m. followed by an informal discussion at Town Hall at approximately 4:30 p.m. regarding the proposed swap.
Landowner Roy Capp has offered to exchange about three and a half acres of land along the Stevensville Cut-off Road and a little over an acre in town along the Eastside Highway for eight and a half acres of the Town’s park land at the north end of the park. If the trade goes through, FWP has agreed to construct a parking lot and install a bathroom on the three acres for a fishing access site. The agency would also maintain the site.
No one spoke in favor of the land swap at a recent Park Board meeting held to consider the matter. The meeting was attended by an overflow crowd. The primary complaint was that the exchange was not equitable.
