The Bitterroot Valley Chamber of Commerce has opened a new visitor information center in Darby. The new center is located across the street from the Old West Candy Store on Main Street.
The center, which is located in a newly renovated building owned by Gene and Rosie Huckstadt, will provide a plethora of material about the Bitterroot Valley – what to do, what to see, where to eat, where to stay, as well as information and referrals from the staff. No hours have been set yet, as volunteers are still being recruited to staff the center. The aim, however, is to have the center open year round. There is plenty of off-street parking as well as a pet rest area.
As part of the move, the Chamber will be closing the visitor information center that has been maintained seasonally at Lost Trail Pass.
“We decided it was would be more advantageous to maintain a presence in Darby on a year round basis,” said Chamber Director Al Mitchell. “It’s also easier to maintain something that is only 20 miles away from the home office instead of fifty,” he said.
Mitchell said that a lot of volunteers would be needed for the new office and anyone interested in serving can contact Pat at 363-2400.
“This is going to benefit Darby, the Bitterroot Valley and the Chamber of Commerce,” said Mitchell. “It’s a win/win situation.”
