Darby boys win 13C district meet

The Darby boys came away with a big win at the District 13C track meet in Missoula over the weekend. The Tigers won by 51 points over Seeley-Swan. Victor finished third. The top six finishers in each event will advance to the Western C Divisional. That meet will be Friday and Saturday at the Missoula County Stadium at Big Sky High School.

Even though Darby graduated one of the top distance runners to ever come out of the valley, the Tigers proved they are the team to beat when it comes to distance running. Garrett McCormack won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. Dawson Jakober finished second in the 3,200 and the 1,600; and Wyatt Doyle finished third in the 1,600.

Storm Wanstrath picked up a win in the 200. He finished third in the javelin, third in the 100 and sixth in the shot put. Dylan Knox won the 300 hurdles. He finished fifth in the 100 and second in the triple jump. Tyler Morris finished second in the 800 and was fourth in both the 200 and the 400. Matt Robbins finished second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. Cougan Kidd finished second in the javelin, sixth in the 400, fifth in the high jump and sixth in the discus. Colton Johnston was second in the discus and sixth in the 200.

Darby’s 400-meter relay team won that event. The team was comprised of Knox, Johnston, Morris and Wanstrath.

Victor’s Kyle Ball paced the Pirates to their third place finish. Ball set a district record in the javelin and the triple jump. Ball’s throw of 170-3 set the standard in that event. He topped a mark set in 1983 by Victor’s Devin Olson by 4.75 inches. Ball’s mark was 43-4.75. He also won the long jump. Ball also was fourth in the high jump and fifth in the 300 hurdles.

Nate Bishop will advance in four events for Victor. He was third in the 110 hurdles, third in the long jump, third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the triple jump. Zac Agee finished second in the long jump, fourth in the javelin and sixth in the triple jump. Bryce Krout was third in the pole vault and fifth in the 110 hurdles. Wyatt Lyons took third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Kolton Benish finished fifth in the 3,200. The 4×100 relay team finished third and the 4×400 relay team was sixth.

The Darby girls finished third behind Seeley Swan and Drummond. Keely Ehmann paced the Tigers with wins in the 200 and the 400. She also placed third in the 100-meter sprint. Lilly Lang won the 3,200 and finished third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 800. Sarai McCollum was second in the 100 and the 300 hurdles, and third in the 100 hurdles. Jessica Campbell tied for third in the high jump and finished third in the discus. Tori Johnston will advance in the long jump. She finished sixth in that event. The 400 relay team finished second and so did the 1600 relay team.

Victor’s Shai Scheffer placed in four events. She was second in the triple jump and the long jump. She finished sixth in the 100 and the 200. Desiree Charlton was fifth in the discus. CharlyJean Conley was fifth in the shot put. Amber Ibey was second in the high jump and Katie Brittle tied for third in the high jump.
