Main Street Association thanks Town of Stevensville

On behalf of the board and membership of the Stevensville Main Street Association, I would like to extend to the Mayor and Town Council a hearty “Thank You!” for their leadership and participation in Stevensville’s streetscape improvement project.

The streetscape improvements we undertook last summer have made our Main Street a safer and more attractive place for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. We are proud of this accomplishment and could not have done it without our town government coming forward as a partner and a leader.

When the Stevensville Main Street Association first embarked on the fundraising goal to meet the match requirement for the project we were looking at a “steep hill to climb.”  With current leadership – Mayor Mim Mack and Council Members Perrin and Klaphake – and with the continuing support of the Council Members Towle and Holcomb, we were able to meet our goal.

Under this leadership the Town of Stevensville stepped in to provide substantial demolition work to remove concrete on sidewalks, curbs and gutters valued at more than $17,000. After a few bureaucratic “hiccups” at the federal level, and a $15,000 cash contribution from WGM engineers, we were able to get credit for this demolition work to help get us to the match goal of $67,000. The town’s demolition work represented 26% of the goal and was a significant contribution.

Throughout the streetscape improvement project the Mayor, Council Members and other key people – Ed Sutherlin, George Thomas, Glenn Bies and Ben Longbottom – stepped up to make the project a success. Not only did they step up, they all lent needed expertise, and made it fun. When you add to that the support of Main Street businesses, it was a great example of teamwork!

The Stevensville Main Street Association is proud of this project. Our local and county governments really helped us make the project succeed. And we will continue with more projects to make our town a safe and beautiful place to live, work and visit.

So it is with a giant-sized “THANK YOU” that we say to our town government that we are so proud to be part of a vital community like Stevensville, and that you are making a remarkable difference in all our lives.
