The Stevensville Yellowjackets do not have a senior on their volleyball team. Their youth at times can hinder them but sometimes it is a definite help. Thursday night’s match against Butte Central was one of those times. The young ‘Jacket team won the first two games but then faltered in the third game. Coach Lindsey Day was a little concerned but she didn’t need to be, they came back with strong play and went on to win the fourth game and the match.

“It was a good win for us,” said Day. “We had a rough match at Corvallis on Tuesday. For them to get their confidence back was great.”

With only three players with varsity experience, Stevensville relies upon Kyla Paulson and Mackinzie Zimmerman’s experience at the net to control the tempo. Day said Zimmerman is the ‘spark plug’ and emotional leader while Paulson’s knowledge of the game gives her an edge when making a play. Day was particularly pleased with how her team came back in the fourth game. The team was determined not to let a ball drop and took advantage of every error the Maroons made. Some of the hits were not conventional but they got the job done and threw Butte Central off of their game.
