Stevi Streetscape project nearly done

August 28, 2012 by Editor

We made it! The project is near finalization and the summer weather has cooperated beautifully.

The information below is provided to advise about the planters and amenities. How the water will work and who will be responsible etc. We now have more handicapped spaces available for our visitors and customers. More parking spaces over-all are now available. The striping will take place in the near future marking the crosswalks, parking spaces and handicapped areas.

We are very pleased with the landscape amenities added to the pedestrian safety bulb outs. This will add an element of destination, arrival, over-all well cared for appearance and slowing of traffic through our Main Street. We have available at the office the landscape maps that show what type of trees/shrubs etc. are being used should anyone want to see them, just e-mail and we will forward to you.

We have a total of 4 new bike racks, 4 new trash cans, 8 new benches and 8 new trees that will be placed at the 2nd and 3rd Street landscaped areas! The landscape areas at 4th Street and the east end of Second Street at the alley will be addressed in the near future and we will be consulting with the Stevensville Garden Club regarding those.

The landscape areas will have root watering systems. These will either collect rain, or will need to be watered into. The landscaping all has a two-year warranty, so for the first two years the landscape contractor (Brugh Landscaping) will be responsible to water, weed, and maintain the landscaped areas. After the two-year warranty is up, the intent is to have the business owners take over the watering as needed once all the trees and plants are established.

We very much appreciate the patience shown by our business community while the construction has been taking place. For the Streetscape project the final touches will be added during the next week.

Please note that the Department of Transportation will be micro-surfacing the Main Street and Eastside Highway from Bell Crossing to the north end of Main Street. Delays will be expected during the time period from August 23rd to September 7th. As schedules and information become available from MDOT we will keep you informed.

Please call the office at 777-3773 with any questions or concerns you might have.

Stevensville Main Street Association
